How We Started
Mom-and-pop feels, cutting edge merch. From a single outlet to a fast expanding home-grown 24-hour convenience store chain in Malaysia.
In 2001, Datuk Seri Chai Kee Kan opened the first KK Mart in a ground floor shoplot in Kuchai Lama, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur. His initial capital of just RM60,000 was fortified with supportive siblings, a few good ideas, and a single-minded focus on fast, expansive growth.
At the heart of its blueprint were service and hard work – the ethos of the Chai family’s sundry shop in Kuching, Sarawak. That heritage became the soul of the first KK Mart with just one clear mission: to serve the community.
A thousand stores later, KK Mart is a modernised mom-and-pop shop offering everyday essentials 24 hours a day, all year round. In the mix are a wide range of cutting-edge products at competitive prices reflecting current demand and future trends.
